Investigation ongoing in weekend battery case

Officers continue to investigate the weekend beating of a Fort Scott man.

According to a statement released by the Fort Scott Police Department, officers are currently investigating the aggravated battery of 29-year-old Kenneth Ray Springston.

Officers responded to a report of a person lying on the ground behind 113 S. Crawford just before 9 p.m., Friday. Upon arrival at the scene, officers found Springston on the ground injured and unconscious. Springston was transported to Mercy Health Center and later flown to a hospital in Joplin, Mo. for further treatment. The extent of Springston's injuries were not released.

According to FSPD Lt. Shaun West, the case is ongoing and no arrests have been made. Any persons with information regarding the case should contact the FSPD (620) 223-1700 or the tips line at (620) 223-1711.

According to West, the FSPD expects to release more information regarding the incident later next week.
