'Something new' Passover meal to be held March 29 in Arcadia

Thirty-two enjoyed the First Sunday in March dinner in Arcadia Christian Church following the morning worship service led by Charles Cable with Stuart Semple assisting Willa Cable in leading the singing. Cable sang a solo before the sermon entitled "Walking The Jesus Road." He read from Matthew 7 and Romans 12.

The young ladies from Patty Peterson's Sunday school class were helpers in getting the food on and off the buffet table. Mark Thomas from Englevale was a guest.

Ladies Retreat will be the last Saturday on March 27. All ladies are invited to the continental breakfast at 8:30, a soup lunch at noon and a special speaker, then craft time in the afternoon. A special "something new" Passover meal will be held in Arcadia Community Center on Monday, March 29 at 6 p.m.. All are invited. The Open Door Mission has invited the Christian Church to their Easter Sunrise Service to be held in the same community center.

Raymond Grace came from Carthage, Mo., to check on the health of his cousin Walter Foulk one day last week. Raymond had returned from a week's vacation in Florida. He is a 1936 graduate of the Arcadia High school.

Belinda Hughes Ammerman, daughter of the late Claude Hughes and Portie Corporon Hughes from McPherson, Kan., recently turned 60 years old and enjoyed the day to the upmost by having her nails done and went to a massage parlor. It is good to hear from young ladies who used to make visits to relatives in Arcadia. Belinda, with husband Brian Ammerman, lives in Bridgeport, Texas.

Tom and Phyllis Watt left their home in Lees Summitt, Mo. to attend a funeral of a friend in Nowata, Okla., on Wednesday. Enroute they stopped by Arcadia to spend some time with his mother, Mae Watt.

In the 50 years ago items in The Fort Scott Tribune, Nell Dikeman says in l969, Frank Becco is Wall Street produce manager. Known as Frankie in Arcadia, many years before that he lived in Gross, Kan. and attended Arcadia High School. Arcadians are pleased to read of their past history.

At the time of Ione Fowler Guthrie's burial in Memorial Gardens, south of Arma, Ava Mae Adams and Mary V. Shead met the family at the cemetery to attend the burial service and greet the family and friends. Ione was an AHS graduate in l927. Among the out of town guests was another former Arcadia resident, Hal Dean Ferraro from the Kansas City area. All were invited to join the family at dinner following at Chicken Mary's in Yale.

The first Tuesday in March, Ruth Holland came to visit Mary V. Shead while Louise Holland took her cousin Ava Mae Adams to visit a relative in Fort Scott Hospital. The two ladies in Arcadia played dominoes and while taking a break and enjoying refreshments, Helen Sisney came and the three enjoyed the visit until Louise came to take Ruth back to her home in Liberal, Mo.

On the last Sunday in February, Dalton James Windsor preached in Verdella, Mo. On the Sunday before that he preached both morning and evening in Oskaloosa Baptist church. Mae Watt was a guest that night attending with Betty Dehn. Windsor is a famous radio announcer for KKOW-AM.

Ron and Patty Page of Arma annouce they are maternal grandparents to Jaxson Edward Ledwich, born Feb. 12, 2010 in Wichita. Parents are Zack and Lacy (Page) Ledwich.

Irene Lowry of Fort Scottt was in Arcadia on Wednesday afternoon adjusting fearing aids for one of her customers. She is a hearing aid specialist at her office in Pittsburg.
