3 students advance to state bee
Fort Scott Middle School hosted the annual Bourbon County Spelling Bee on February 12. Twenty-three contestants participated in the contest, which included sixth through eighth grade students from Fort Scott Middle School and Fort Scott Christian Heights.
The winners were Zadok Self, 8th grader from Fort Scott Christian Heights winning first place; Elizabeth Hall, 8th grader from Fort Scott Christian Heights taking second place; and David Blethin, 8th grader from Fort Scott Middle School winning third place.
Zadok Self will not be able to attend the state spelling bee, therefore Hall will advance to the state competition. The Great Bend Tribune Sunflower Spelling Bee will be held at 1 p.m., March 13, at Barton County Community College, Great Bend. State winners will advance to national competition in Washington, D.C.
