FSHS grad Davis to appear on national TV
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Fort Scott High School graduate L.C. Davis will take on Lithuanian fighter Deividas Taurosevicius in a three-round World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) featherweight bout at 9 p.m. March 6 on Versus. The 29-year-old Davis (15-2) looks for his third consecutive win in the WEC when he takes on Taurosevicius (12-3) at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. Knowing that a win could lead to a title shot later this year, Davis is as motivated as ever.
"This is a really important fight for me and I'm taking it very seriously," Davis said. "I know that a win puts me one step closer toward the world title."
Davis graduated from Fort Scott High School in 1999 and went on to wrestle at Labette Community College in Parsons and Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Mo. Prior to getting involved in mixed martial arts (MMA), he was an assistant coach for the fledgling program at Pratt Community College.
Davis won the first nine matches of his professional career and has won both his matches since joining WEC. He defeated Javier Vazquez in Las Vegas on Aug. 9, 2009 on a split decision, and Diego Nunes on a unanimous decision on Nov. 18, 2009, in Las Vegas. Nunes was unbeaten in his pro career prior to meeting Davis.
Taurosevicius, 32, has won his last two bouts. He won a split decision over Vazquez in San Antonio, Texas, on Oct. 10, 2009, and a unanimous decision over Mackens Semerzier on January 10 in Sacramento.
More on Davis' preparation for his upcoming bout appears on the Las Vegas Sun's Web site (http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2010/feb/24/lc-davis-kind-bored-improving-his-game-las-vegas/).
Davis usually trains out of Kansas City, Mo., but has also worked in the Quad Cities (Iowa/Illinois).
