Vikings take OT decision from Eagles
RICHMOND -- Pioneer League leader Central Heights took an overtime decision from Uniontown's girls here Tuesday night, winning by a score of 39-37 in a non-league contest between the former Three Rivers League rivals.
"The girls really battled in this one," Uniontown head coach Ken Holt said. "We were down by 5 points with under two minutes to go in regulation and got it to overtime."
Breanna Esslinger hit a 3-point shot to open the extra session, putting the Eagles (10-7) up 36-33. Central Heights (11-4) won it with a running shot in the lane as time expired.
Esslinger hit four 3-point goal as she led the Eagles with 12 points. Jacy Ermel followed with 9.
The game was close for most of regulation. The score was tied at 8-8 after one period. The Vikings led 12-10 at halftime and 26-25 after three.
The Eagles go to Pleasanton Friday night, which will be the second of three consecutive nights of play for the Blu-Jays, who have to play make up games Thursday and Saturday.
UPDATE: It was reported after the Tribune went to press that Uniontown's boys lost to Central Heights, 64-32. The Vikings came into the game ranked No. 10 in Class 3A in the latest Kansas Basketball Coaches Association poll.
Uniontown fell to 6-10 with the loss while Heights improved to 12-3. No other details from the game were available.
