Fort Scott Presbyterian Village invites community to soup/chili cook off

Wednesday, January 13, 2010

Nothing warms the body on a cold winter day like a bowl of soup or chili.

To help fight the winter cold, the Fort Scott Presbyterian Village will be hosting the "Souper Supper Cook-off" at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 19. The competition invites the public to compete to see whose recipe is the best.

Contestants can enter their favorite comfort soup, stew, or chili. Registration for the contest must be completed by Jan. 15 by calling the Presbyterian Village or stop by the facility. Participants will bring a crock pot with their submission to be judged. The winners will be chosen by a panel of judges from the Over-60 Dinner Club, according to Presbyterian Village Executive Director Ginger Dierksen.

The winning entry will receive $75, and second place will receive $50. In addition, the top two winning recipes will be featured in an upcoming Way to Live newsletter, as well as in The Fort Scott Tribune as the 2010 Favorite Comfort Soup.

Those who turn in an entry in advance will need to bring a crock pot full of their recipe for an official taste judging. Entries of favorite comfort soup or chili will need to be at the facility by 5 p.m. and sustained until judging occurs at 5:30 p.m.

To enter a dish or for more information, call the Fort Scott Presbyterian Village at (620) 223-5550 or stop by 2401 S. Horton St. by Jan. 15.
