HILDA IRENE PRATHER

Hilda Irene Prather, age 93, resident of Fort Scott Manor Nursing Home, died early Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009, at the home where she had made her residence since September of 2006.

She was born Aug. 13, 1916, in Toronto, Kan., the daughter of George Burt and Jennie Scott Burt.

She married John Prather in 1939. John preceded her in death.

Hilda worked 27 years as bookkeeper for the Eureka Federal Savings and Loan in Eureka, Kan., prior to her retirement.

She moved to Fort Scott in 2001 to be near family.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Eureka.

John and Hilda were founding members of the Flintstone Campers Club and enjoyed traveling.

Survivors include her son-in-law, Dick Hedges, Fort Scott; one sister, Hazel Kirby, Topeka, Kan.; two grandsons, Lance Hedges and wife Stacey, Garnett, Kan., and Kyle Hedges and wife Tina, Bolivar, Mo.

Also surviving are six great-grandchildren, Cale, Remington, Riley, Taylor, Kennedy, and McKinley Hedges.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Hedges and a sister, Flossie Burt.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 18, in the Greenwood Cemetery, Eureka, Kan.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Cheney Witt Chapel.
