Veterans honored with flag ceremony
Medicalodges of Fort Scott honored its veterans with a flag folding ceremony Wednesday. Before the ceremony Medicalodges employee Kayla Smith sang God Bless America and America the Beautiful. The songs brought tears to the eyes of those in attendance.
Commander Clint Walker and Bill Danly, both of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1165, honored the veterans with the flag ceremony. Once folded, the flag was presented to Medicalodges resident Kenny Simons, also a veteran.
Simons is one of 12 veterans in Fort Scott Medicalodges. The others include: administrator Karen Brown and residents Earl Clyburn, George Connelly, Ralph Reed, David Schnickels, Bill Shirley, Steve Harper, Bill May, George Sinn, Jim Akers, and Ellwood Stambraugh.
"All these veterans are held in the utmost respect to Medicalodges and their undying loyalty to our country will always be remembered," a release from Medicalodges said.
After the flag folding ceremony, those in attendance thanked the veterans and shared cake and ice cream in celebration of the veterans currently serving, the ones who have served and those that have fallen in service to their country.
