Pittsburg victory over Chanute gives Tigers SEK title outright

CHANUTE -- Pittsburg defeated Chanute, 25-22, 25-8, here Monday night, a victory which was a favor for its biggest rival.
Chanute came into this Southeast Kansas League triangular -- originally scheduled for Oct. 1 but postponed due to a flu outbreak -- with a chance to tie Fort Scott High for the league championship. But Pittsburg's sweep gave the Blue Comets their second league loss.
Fort Scott finished 7-1 in the SEK, winning the league for the seventh time in school history and the first time since 2003. Both Pittsburg (28-7 overall) and Chanute (22-12) swept Coffeyville to finished tied for second at 6-2.
