Quilts constructed to help conquer cancer

Saturday, October 17, 2009
A collection of quilts created by local women with loving care to raise awareness of breast cancer issues and to raise money for Vernon and Bates county Relay for Life groups, which supports research through the American Cancer Society, is on display at Nine Patch Quilt and Fabric, 129 E. Walnut, in Nevada. The public is encouraged to stop by and view the collection and vote for a favorite. A pink ribbon, purchased for $1, is placed on the quilt of choice to indicate a vote. All of the money raised will be donated. "When people look at these, it really touches a chord," said Nine Patch owner Erica Skouby. "It touches so many of our lives in one way or another. Everyone seems to have a story to tell." --Photos by Lynn A. Wade/Daily Mail
