Elbert Clovis Jennings

Elbert Clovis Jennings, age 82, a resident of Guest Home Estates, died Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009, at the Mercy Health Center's emergency room. He was born Jan. 8, 1927, in Mapleton, Kan., the son of Henry L. and Gracie E. Ballou Jennings. Clovis worked as a dishwasher for St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Mo., during the early 1960s. He later worked for Key Work Clothes in Fort Scott in the late 1960s. He was a member of the National Rifle Association.

Survivors include five nephews including Lyndon Jennings and Avery Reed and wife Cheryl of Fort Scott; and three nieces. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Alpha and Wayne Jennings, and one sister, Leota Reed.

Elder Myron Reed will conduct graveside services at 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 10, in the Mapleton Cemetery, Mapleton. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until leaving for the cemetery at the Cheney Witt Chapel.

Memorials are suggested to the Guest Home Estates Activity Fund and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, P.O. Box 347, Fort Scott, KS 66701.
