Brown fourth in SEK race
COLUMBUS -- According to information sent out by the Chanute Tribune, Fort Scott's Kacie Brown has finished in fourth place in the Southeast Kansas League in the first-ever sanctioned girls' golf season.
The SEK was able to begin officially sponsoring girls' golf this year when Chanute came on to make up the fifth team needed for league sanction. The Blue Comets as a team won the first-ever team title as they increased a 45-stroke lead coming into Thursday's Columbus Tournament. Chanute shot 237 to the Tigers' 266 to end up taking the team title by 74 strokes.
Maggie Sloan of Pittsburg shot 42 over nine holes and finished with a three-tournament, 36-hole total of 164 to win the individual crown. She finished 21 strokes ahead of Chanute's Taylor Gard.
Kasey Schoech of Columbus was third with a total of 217. Brown ended up with 226 for the SEK season after she finished at 78 in the tournament Thursday.
Devan Lloyd finished ninth in the SEK as she shot 63 Thursday to finish SEK play with a total of 242. She was one stroke behind Shelbi Carpenter of Parsons and one ahead of Danae Decker of Chanute.
Hayley Kruse finished 11th in the SEK as she scored 77 Thursday to conclude play with a total of 285.

The Tigers will play an 18-hole tournament at Anderson County at 1 p.m. Monday.
