Area artists staging 'Cheaper by the Dozen'

The Cast of "Cheaper by the Dozen," which will run at the Fox Playhouse in Nevada Sept. 10-12.

NEVADA -- The Community Council on the Performing Arts will present "Cheaper by the Dozen" starting Thursday at the Fox Playhouse, 110 S. Main St.

The play is a comedy adapted by Christopher Sergel from the book by Frank Gilbreth and Ernestine Gilbreth Carey. The play is directed by Tony Wagner, sponsored by Metz Banking Company and produced by special arrangement with The Dramatic Publishing Company of Woodstock, Ill.

The story involves an attractive high school girl, a member of a large family whose father, Mr. Gilbreth, is one of the great pioneers of industrial efficiency. He decided to apply his efficiency theories to the entire family. He pushes ahead with better organization; puts up a chart for the young people to initial after completing each household task; demonstrates how to take a really efficient bath and appoints a utilities officer to levy fines on those who waste electricity.

While the situations are often uproarious, there is a serious reason. Audiences will be delighted with a warm and funny look at family relationships, according to a press release.

A large cast of children and adults from the area includes Mike Womack as Mr. Gilbreth and Angie Bin as Mrs. Gilbreth. The children in the play are portrayed by Ashley Magsam, Luke Christianson, Heather Hagenson, Shayd Williams, Finean Williams, Levi Bin, Reece Mader, Caitlyn Cable and Hannah Tietz. Others in supporing roles include Kay Harper, Garin Williams, Nick Mugee, Treva Williams and Casey Long.

Performances will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, with a matinee performance scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday. The cost for all seats is $6. CCPA season tickets will also be available for $35 for all seven season productions, the press release said.
