11-year-olds take 3rd

LIBERAL -- Fort Scott's 11-year-old Cal Ripken team took third place at the State Tournament here Monday. In the semifinals, Fort Scott lost the SPIAA team, 9-8, as SPIAA used a four-run rally in the bottom of the fifth inning to move into the finals.

Fort Scott's team went on to defeat Ottawa, 6-5, by rallying to score the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Fort Scott also won the tournament's Sportsmanship Award.
