Fort Scott entrants in tough position to advance

CASPER, Wyo. -- Fort Scott Community College's entrants in the College National Finals rodeo find themselves in tough positions as they seek to advance in their events.

Bareback rider James Bond fell 10 positions in the standings to 23rd place after riders who hadn't taken their second go already produced better results. Bond has 80 points, all of which were scored on one ride as he had no score in his second go. His third go is on Friday night and he appears to be in a position where he would need to have a strong ride and see several others falter in order to make the finals.

Steven Peebles of Western Wyoming has been joined on top of the standings by Chancy Lovinggood of Northwest Oklahoma State. Both riders have 158.5 points. Dusty Garcia of Southwestern Oklahoma, who was in second place, is now tied for third with Danny Webb of Feather River (Calif.) with 155.5 points.

Carrson Hiatt entered Tuesday's second go in bull riding with no score as he was unable to stay on in his first go. However, his second go was just like his first, ending with no score. It is highly unlikely that Hiatt will reach the finals even though he is tied for 16th place.

Only 12 of the over 39 riders have scored. Of those 12, only four have scored in both gos. Jeffrey Askey of Tennessee-Martin moved into first place with 165.0 points and is the only rider to score over 80 points in each of his first two gos (83 and 82 points). Tag Elliott of Southern Idaho dropped to second place with his 155 points. Justin Thomas of Laramie County (Wyo.) is now third with 142.5 points and Chad German of Wharton (Texas) is fourth with 137.5 points.

The third go in bull riding was scheduled for later Tuesday. Results were not available in time for deadline. Finals in all events take place Saturday.
