National Park Service offers free weekends

Tuesday, June 16, 2009

Due to the downturn in America's economy, the National Park Service is offering free family fun.

This summer, the NPS will offer three fee-free weekends at many of the 391 national parks throughout the country, including the Fort Scott National Historical Site. The dates park entrance fees will be waived are June 20-21, July 18-19, and August 15-16.

The NPS said visiting the national parks is always a bargain, but now they are an even better deal.

FSNHS is among the parks that will participate in the program. Living history and other interpretive programs will be offered all three weekends including a special evening tour on June 20, July 18, and August 15. The park is open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. daily.
