Virginia Marie Townsley, age 89, a former resident of Fort Scott, Kansas, and more recently of Modesto, California, died Sunday, May 31, 2009, at the Memorial Hospital in Modesto.

She was born August 29, 1919, in Ringo, Kansas, the daughter of Henry George Terrill and Leona Arlene Tanner Terrill.

Virginia married Fred J. Townsley on June 1, 1951, at Reno, Nevada. He preceded her in death on September 3, 1997.

Virginia was a registered nurse.

She was also a member of the Redfield United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and a member of the Bourbon County Weaver and Spinner's Gild.

Virginia also volunteered many hours at the Ralph Richards Museum.

Survivors include two brothers, Donald Terrill, St. Augustine, Florida and Leonard Terrill, Gresham, Oregon; and a sister, Teresa Bristow, Sacramento, California.

Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Vivian McPherson and a brother, Robert Terrill.

Rev. Joel Dunn will conduct funeral services at 1:30 p.m., Friday, June 12, 2009, at the Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel.

Burial will follow in the Bronson Cemetery.

Services are under the direction of the Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel, 201 S. Main, Fort Scott, Kansas.
