Marcel Normand, an adjunct faculty member at Fort Scott Community College, was named the recipient of the Alumni and Friends' newly created Mary Sue Flagg Distinguished Service Award, according to Harold Hicks, the president of the Alumni and Friends board.

Kevin Swope made the presentation during the recent annual Faculty and Staff luncheon that concluded the school year.

Normand received an engraved glass paperweight. In addition, a large wall plaque was displayed which will hang near the office of the Alumni and Friends Board in the Danny and Willa Ellis Family Fine Arts Center, where future honorees can be added whenever the award is presented, Alumni Executive Director Jill Warford said.

The award is named for Mary Sue Flagg, a former director of development and alumni coordinator at FSCC who spent her entire career serving the college. The purpose of the award is to recognize an FSCC faculty member, staff member, or community supporter for long-term exceptional service to the college.

Normand, a charter member of the FSCC Alumni and Friends, is now in his 50th consecutive year of teaching at the college. Normand taught 26 of those years as a full-time faculty member, and has spent the remaining years as a part-time instructor.

He and his wife, Helen, have been married 47 years and have three children and 13 grandchildren.
