Christian Heights holds graduations
In a special graduation ceremony on Friday, a long journey came to an end for two Fort Scott Christian Heights students.
With teachers, friends and family members assembled together in the school's gymnasium, Nathan Smith and Aaron Tucker both FSCH seniors were presented with their high school diplomas. In addition, Tucker was named the 2009 FSCH valedictorian.
Also recognized during the graduation celebration, nine eighth grade students graduated from middle school into high school. Emily Cox, Faith Davolt, Shae Dobbs, Andrew Grotheer, Anna Marsh, Andrew Page, Alexandria Reeves, Matthew Williams and Rebecca Wray were all recognized during the event.
The graduation ceremony included musical numbers by the Boys Ensemble and the High School Choir. In addition, Missouri Senator Delbert Scott delivered the 2009 commencement address.
Since opening its doors more than 60 years ago, FSCH has conducted graduation ceremonies for nearly 400 students, according to the school's Web site, www.fortscottchristianheights.com. Averaging about 70 students per year, the private school not only teaches its students academic skills, but also Biblical principals, the Web site said.
"Fort Scott Christian Heights understands the value of a good education; and an education with good values," the Web site said. "A Christian based education is more important than ever in our changing world. Many of the values we once took for granted are simply not taught in our society anymore. Christian education blends academic achievement social skills and athletic training with a solid Biblical world view to prepare your child for both life in the world and life in eternity.
