Jayhawk-Linn sweeps Uniontown in softball
MOUND CITY -- Jayhawk-Linn swept Uniontown in a non-league softball doubleheader here Friday. The Jayhawks won game one, 5-1, and took game two, 13-8.
These were the first two losses of the season for the Eagles (3-2).
"Some untimely mistakes, both offensively and defensively cost us today," Uniontown head coach Alan Shinn said. "Still, I was proud of the way the girls came back from behind in the second game. They did not quit. Even though we got beat twice we learned some things today that will help us later on."
Jayhawk-Linn broke a 1-1 tie in the opener with a three-run third inning.
Jessie Camac had two hits for Uniontown, one of those a triple. Tayler Shook allowed four earned runs on three hits and five walks with five strikeouts.
Jayhawk-Linn's pitcher, Murrow, allowed five hits and three walks while striking out seven.
The Jayhawks scored five times in the first inning of the second game. But the Eagles were able to get within 9-8 after scoring four in the top of the sixth.
Jayhawk-Linn scored four in the bottom of the sixth, then held Uniontown in the seventh.
"In both games we were able to get runners on base, but (we left) too many runners left on base," Shinn said. "The second game, especially, we hit the ball hard, but sometimes it was right at them."
Camac had three hits in the second game for the Eagles.
Murrow went the distance again for the Jayhawks in the second game, allowing 12 hits and three walks while striking out six.
Uniontown played at Marmaton Valley Monday.
