Fort Scott Presbyterian Village to hold fundraiser

Tuesday, April 21, 2009

"Fundraising dinner and auction" may bring to mind formals and tuxedos, but Fort Scott Presbyterian Village puts the "fun" into fundraising with its annual community event.

"We want you to kick up your heels on April 30, come out and have a great time of fun for everyone," Fort Scott Presbyterian Village Executive Director Ginger Dierksen said. "Jeans are welcome!

"We want to encourage everyone to come out, bring the family and enjoy a great spring evening," Dierksen said. "Chicken Annie's dinners are back by popular demand, and this year's dinners will include a three-piece chicken dinner, delicious homemade desserts and a drink. We'll be auctioning some fantastic items -- and one lucky winner will claim a prize of a Caribbean cruise for two!"

Proceeds from the event will go to Presbyterian Village's Good Samaritan Fund.

Dierksen explains the fund "helps ensure that residents who have outlived their personal resources can continue to receive care regardless of their ability to pay. Not once in our 60 year history of the Presbyterian Manor organization has anyone ever been asked to move due to their inability to pay. When you are 80, 90, or 100 years old, you shouldn't have to worry about certain things due to lack of finances! This is a mission we believe in and we couldn't do it without the help of great supporters."

Dinners on April 30 will be served from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Carry-out meals and drive-through service is available, as well as dine-in. Advance tickets are $6.50 each. A very limited number of tickets will be available at the door for $7.50 each. Tickets usually run out at the door so it is important to get tickets early. Members of the Fort Scott High School Select Ensemble will entertain from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Presbyterian Village's auction will again live up to its reputation by offering something on this evening for any budget. Jim Stewart and Larry Mewhinney of Stewart Auction Service will entertain the crowd with their auctioneering prowess. Auction items can be previewed at the Village on April 29-30, or by special appointment. The sale will begin at 5:30 p.m. April 30. Buyer's will find everything from antiques to athletic equipment. There are also silent auction items available for bid indoors.

There will also be a drawing for a five-day Western Caribbean Cruise for two held during our event. Drawing tickets will be offered for a suggested donation of $5 each or three tickets for $10. They are available in advance and will be available at the event until the time of the drawing, which will be held at the end of the evening. This trip is fully transferable and transportation costs are included.

In honor of the Presbyterian Village's 15th anniversary, additional drawings will take place every 15 minutes to give away some great prizes during the early hours of the event to those in attendance.

"Come celebrate our 15th anniversary of serving the community, have a fun evening, and feel good about helping our seniors through the Good Samaritan Fund," Dierksen said.

Tickets are available for purchase now at the Presbyterian Village. Please call Dierksen at (620) 223-5550 for more information. If bad weather threatens, all activities will be held indoors, and shuttle service will be available for parking.
