FSPD makes arrest on multiple charges in Friday evening incident
Shortly after 6 p.m. Friday, April 3, Fort Scott Police officers responded to a call at 1705 E. Oak in reference to someone threatening others with a shotgun, according to FSPD Lt. Travis Shelton.
After speaking with the three victims -- Aarika Hawkins, Teresa Thompson and Chelsie Deal -- officers arrested Joielle M. McClellan on charges of aggravated assault, disorderly conduct, battery and criminal threat.
There were no shots fired from the shotgun during the incident, and while at the scene of the crime, officers seized the shot gun as evidence, Shelton said.
Assault is intentionally placing another person in reasonable apprehension of immediate bodily harm, and the assault becomes aggravated assault when it is carried out with a deadly weapon. Aggravated assault is a severity level 7, person felony; disorderly conduct is a class C misdemeanor; battery is a class B person misdemeanor; and a criminal threat is a severity level 9, person felony, according to the Kansas Legislature.
According to Shelton, even though McClellan was arrested on multiple charges, she is still innocent until proven guilty.
