'Hound women see season end at Cloud County
CONCORDIA -- Leondra Doomes-Stephens' 31-point, 13-rebound night was not enough here Tuesday night as Fort Scott Community College's women suffered a 72-63 defeat at the hands of Cloud County in the first round of the Region VI Tournament.
It was the eighth time in her junior-college career that Doomes-Stephens had scored over 30 points. But the Greyhounds (15-16) saw their season come to an end. Valencia Kelly scored 13 points and Monet Fernandes scored 10 for Fort Scott.
Cloud County (25-6) saw Kara Champlin score 15 points while Jennaine Kermis and Sharnice Saunders each added 14.
The 'Hounds trailed just 31-29 at halftime but shot only 29 percent from the field in the second half, making 11 of 38 field-goal attempts.
