Tuesday, March 3, 2009

IOLA -- Fort Scott Community College's baseball team was able to get in just one day of its originally-scheduled three-day weekend series with Des Moines Area (Iowa). In order to do that, the Greyhounds had to move Friday's games to Iola. Saturday's and Sunday's games could not be played due to snow.

DMACC, the No. 1-ranked team in NJCAA Division II, won the opener on Friday, 13-1, and took the second game, 3-1.

In the opener, Travis Cruz had two of Fort Scott's four hits.

The Greyhounds (4-6) took a 1-0 lead after one inning of the second game. DMACC won it with three runs in the top of the third.

Fort scott was held to one hit, a Jason Houston single that scored Cruz with the Greyhounds' only run.

Zach Juliano made his first start of the season and went six innings. He allowed four hits and three walks while striking out five. None of the runs scored off him were earned.

The Greyhounds will open Jayhawk Conference-Eastern Division play with a doubleheader at Johnson County Thursday afternoon.
