Five-run ninth costly for Greyhound baseball

WILBURTON, Okla. -- Fort Scott Community College's baseball team surrendered five runs in the bottom of the ninth inning here Saturday and lost to Eastern Oklahoma State, 8-7, in a single non-conference game.

Fort Scott (2-4) had just added a run in the top of the inning to make it 7-3. Two pitchers gave up five hits and two walks in the bottom of the frame.

Adam Johnston went three for five for the Greyhounds and drove in two runs. Cullen Baxter was two for five with a home run. Zach Higgins was two for four and scored twice. Brandon Davis and Tyler Zimmerman each went two for three with Davis scoring twice.

Davis, Johnston and Higgins each belted a double. Johnston and Davis each had a stolen base.

Starting pitcher Sean Felt (0-0) had a strong outing for the 'Hounds, allowing one run on four hits and three walks while striking out four. He faced 20 batters.

Fort Scott will play its first home games this weekend as the Greyhounds play host to Des Moines Area of Iowa. DMACC is the No. 1-ranked team in the NJCAA Division II poll, going 48-18 last season.
