Missouri Archaeological Society to hold annual meeting in Lake Ozark
The 2009 annual meeting of the Missouri Archaeological Society will be held April 3--5, at the Resort at Port Arrowhead in Lake Ozark, Mo., which can be reached by phone at (800) 532-3575. This three-day meeting provides a forum for the exchange of information between avocational and professional archaeologists and is vital in helping the Society promote the investigation, preservation, and interpretation of prehistoric and historic remains in Missouri, a constructive attitude toward these remains, and cooperation between avocational and professional archaeologists.
A range of activities is planned beginning Friday evening with book sales and a welcome reception for conference attendees. Saturday's events include a full day of presentations of current archaeological research in Missouri. Also on Saturday there will be exhibits, displays, book sales, an artifact show, a silent auction, and a banquet. The banquet will be followed by a presentation by Dr. David Anderson of the University of Tennessee. You do not have to attend the banquet in order to hear Dr. Anderson's presentation titled From Colonization to Complexity: First Peopling to Monumental Architecture in North America. Sunday morning will feature several workshops including flintknapping, archaeological site registration, and Paleoindian artifact identification.
The meeting is open to MAS members and the interested public. The $15 registration fee includes admission to all meeting events, except the banquet which costs $20 per person.
Established in 1934, the MAS is a nonprofit organization of avocational and professional archaeologists who are interested in the prehistory and history of Missouri and who support the purposes of the Society. Membership in the Society costs $25 per calendar year and entitles members to receive five exciting and informative publications and to participate in Society-sponsored activities.
