Fort Scott City Commission candidate Tom Raciti has announced he will no longer be campaigning but will remain on the ballot.
Raciti said the reason for his decision is based on two factors. He said he doesn't feel he is the best qualified for the position. He also said he may be leaving the area this summer which would make him ineligible for office.
"I feel a lot of the candidates are more qualified," Raciti said. "I wish not to be voted for."
Bourbon County Clerk Joanne Long said according to state law, Raciti cannot withdrawal from the race. The law states that the deadline to file or withdrawal shall be at noon, 10 weeks prior to the election. This means Jan. 27 was the deadline to withdrawal from the race. All he can do now is quit campaigning and urge voters to vote for the other candidates.
According to Long, the same situation occurred two years ago when Billy Webster wished to withdrawal from the City Commission race.
