Jayhawk-Linn girls, Uniontown boys pick up victories
PLEASANTON -- Jayhawk-Linn's girls and Uniontown's boys were the area winners on the first night of play at the annual Pleasanton Mid-Season Tournament here Tuesday night.
The top-seeded Jayhawk girls (9-0) defeated Uniontown, 44-27. Uniontown's boys, the fourth seed, defeated Prairie View, 59-52.
In other area games, Pleasanton's girls fell to Northeast-Arma, 33-31, Jayhawk boys dropped a 50-34 decision to Northeast, and Pleasanton's boys suffered a 55-41 setback to Central Heights.
Top-seeded Crest boys took a 66-20 win over Humboldt. Also, Central Heights' girls beat Crest, 57-33, and Humboldt's girls downed Prairie View, 51-45.
Jayhawk girls 44, Uniontown 27.
Meriel Long scored 13 points and Taylor Dawson added 11 for the Jayhawks, who led just 12-10 after one period but outscored Uniontown, 16-4, in the second.
Jacy Ermel had 14 points and 10 rebounds for Uniontown (2-8).
Uniontown boys 59, Prairie View 52.
Travis Aikins led the Eagles (5-5) with 25 points and Cody Tinsley added 10. Toby Cornejo led Prairie View (2-7) with 19 points.
"This was a good win," Uniontown head coach Nathan Hinrichs said. "Prairie View did a good job of competing. Every time we pulled ahead, they came back."
Northeast girls 33, Pleasanton 31.
Rachel Richmond scored 18 points for the Blu-Jays (3-6). She was the only double-digit scorer in the game, going 10 of 15 at the free-throw line.
Northeast boys 50, Jayhawk-Linn 34.
Terry Baker scored 12 points for Jayhawk-Linn, which remains winless on the season (0-9). Todd Brennon paced the Vikings with 22 points and Craig Cowan added 19.
Central Heights boys 55, Pleasanton 41.
Kolbee McKee led Pleasanton (5-4) with 14 points while T.J. Davis added 12. Adam Horstick led Central Heights with 13.
