JV boys win home tourney title game

Fort Scott High School's junior varsity basketball team won its home tournament Saturday with two wins.

In the morning session, the Tigers defeated Iola, 59-38, as Logan Fancher scored 14 points and Cody Harper added 13.

The afternoon game against Chanute went into double overtime before Fort Scott won, 61-53. Harper hit a three-point shot to force overtime. Gabe Quick, who led the Tigers with 28 points, made five of six shots from the free-throw line in the second overtime to give his team the win.

Friday night, the Tigers lost to Labette County at Altamont in a regular-season game, 44-43. Jeremy Hull scored 16 points for Fort Scott.

Tonight, Independence is scheduled to visit Fort Scott on what will be a full six-game night with freshmen, JV and varsity boys' and girls' games.

At Buck Run Community Center, the JV boys start things off at 4:30 p.m. followed by the freshmen boys at 6 and the freshmen girls at 7:30.

At the FSHS gymnasium, the JV girls take the court at 4:30 followed by the varsity girls at 6 and the varsity boys at 7:30. Both varsity games will count in Southeast Kansas League play.

Fort Scott's teams will also play host to Chanute Friday before going on their holiday break. This will also be a six-game night with the same schedule as tonight's games. The varsity games will also count in SEK play.

The varsity girls are 2-0 in the SEK and 3-2 overall. The varsity boys are 1-1, 2-3 going into tonight's contest.
