Jayhawk girls beat Pleasanton in LCT

MOUND CITY -- Jayhawk-Linn's girls defeated Pleasanton, 64-30, on the first night of the round-robin Linn County Tournament here Tuesday night.

In other games, Pleasanton's boys got by Jayhawk-Linn, 43-41, and Drexel (Mo.) girls downed Prairie View, 51-26. No score was provided from the Drexel-Prairie View boys' game.

Chelsea Beckman led the Jayhawk girls with 15 points as she connected on seven of 15 shots from the field. Carrie Rockers added 12 points.

Beckman and Amory Miller each had five rebounds while Rockers and Jessica Walters each picked up three steals.

"We played much better defensively than (against Crest)," Jayhawk-Linn head coach Charlie Beckman said. "We may be beginning to utilize our quickness."

Rachel Richmond led Pleasanton with nine points. Carlee Campbell added eight for the Blu-Jays.

The Jayhawks (2-0) led 20-4 after the first quarter.

Pleasanton fell to 1-1 with the loss.

No details were available from the boys' game. Pleasanton improved to 2-0 while Jayhawk-Linn dropped to 0-2.

Tonight, Pleasanton's teams take on Prairie View while Jayhawk-Linn plays Drexel. Friday night, Pleasanton will face Drexel and Jayhawk-Linn will take on Prairie View to conclude the tournament.
