Mary Louise Pitts, age 81, a resident of Fort Scott, Kan., died early Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008, at the Fort Scott Manor.

She was born June 29, 1927, in the boot heal of Missouri, the daughter of John Robinson Whitlock and Bertha Evans Whitlock. Mary had worked as a cook and waitress at the Downtowner in Fort Scott. She enjoyed working in her flower garden.

Survivors include her husband, Calvin, of the home; two step-sons, Eddie Pitts and wife, LuAnne, Redfield, Kan., and Carl L. Hall, Desert Springs, Calif.; a step-daughter, Nola Smith and husband, Richard, Redfield, Kan.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Juanita Whitlock.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Beatrice, Lorenne, Johnnie, and Lilly Frances; two brothers, Earl Johnson Whitlock and Frank Lee Whitlock and a half-brother, Lewis Thorton.

Rev. Reed Hartford will conduct graveside services at 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 14, 2008, at the U. S. National Cemetery. Family and friends may meet at the Cheney Witt Chapel prior to leaving for the cemetery at 10:45 a.m.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday at the Cheney Witt Chapel.

Memorials are suggested to the Mary Pitts Memorial Fund and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, P.O. Box 347, Fort Scott, Kan., 66701.
