Parents invited to attend drug awareness presentation

Tuesday, October 28, 2008

In observance of Red Ribbon Week, USD 234 school counselors Denise Umphenour, Winfield Scott, and Jackie Harvey, Eugene Ware, along with Fort Scott Police School Resource Officer Toby Nighswonger and Fort Scott Police K9 Officer Lance Fabrizius, will be conducting drug awareness assemblies for all USD 234 fourth and fifth grade students.

The assemblies will be informational presentations in which the children will be taught the importance of sticking together as a class to insure every child in the USD 234 school district remains drug free.

In addition, those present will view a short "Faces of Meth" video provided by the Kansas Bureau of Investigations. The video will show the before and after effects of people who have been affected by methamphetamines.

Also making an appearance during the assemblies will be Fabrizius and Police Service Dog Silvy.

The general public is invited to attend one of the "Together We Can Trash Drugs" awareness assemblies.

The presentation at Eugene Ware will be at 8:30 a.m. for the fourth grade and 9:30 a.m. for the fifth grade on Wednesday, Oct. 29. At Winfield Scott an assembly will be conducted at 8 a.m. for the fifth grade students and at 11 a.m. for the fourth grade students on Thursday, Oct. 30.
