Marye Adam
Marye Adams, 90, Kansas City, Mo., formerly of Nevada, passed away on Friday, Oct.24, 2008, at St. Luke's Hospital, Kansas City, Mo., following a sudden illness. She was born June 19, 1918, one of twin daughters to Dr. Joseph M. and Edna Smith Yater.
Marye was raised in Nevada and lived here most of her life before moving to Kansas City. She was a graduate of Cottey College in Nevada, University of Missouri, in Columbia, and studied music at Juilliard and Columbia University in New York City. Marye taught school in Westphalia, Kan., and Hume, Mo. She was employed at Cottey College for 28 years in food service. Marye was a member of the All Saints Episcopal Church, in Nevada.
Survivors include one son, Christopher "Kit" Adams and his wife Coila, Kittredge, Colo.; two daughters, Angela Jane Nixon, Kansas City, Mo., and Connie Melissa Heathman and her husband Ron, Kansas City, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Tony Mitchem, Nevada, Zeke Mitchem, Milledgeville, Ga., Luke Mitchem, Vienna, Va., Dusty Mitchem, Nevada, Gabe Nixon, Kansas City, Mo., Joe Nixon, Kansas City, Mo., and Rosielani Johnson, Indian Hills, Colo., and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her twin sister, Jane Hays.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 28, at Newton Burial Park, Nevada, with the Rev. Mimi Savidge officiating. Friends may call now and until 1:30 p.m., on Tuesday and the family receives friends 6-8 p.m. on Monday evening at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
