Uniontown sweeps on Senior Night
UNIONTOWN -- Uniontown's volleyball team concluded the regular season with a sweep of Pleasanton and Marmaton Valley in a non-league triangular here Tuesday night.
The Eagles (22-12) defeated Pleasanton, 25-23, 25-12, and Marmaton Valley, 25-7, 25-9. The Blu-Jays (10-24) swept Pleasanton in the middle match, 25-15, 25-13.
For Uniontown, Abbie Smith had six kills on 13 of 15 attack chances in the Pleasanton match. Jacy Ermel was successful on 13 of 14 attacks.
Against Moran, Ermel had seven kills as she was perfect in 14 attack chances. Jessica Schaaf was perfect on 10 attacks and had four kills.
"It was nice to get a pair of wins on our home court for Senior Night," Uniontown head coach Jackie Hall said. "We know we have some work to do before Saturday's Sub-State. We really need to be able to be able to put a complete match together, not just bits and pieces."
No statistics were available from Pleasanton at press time.
Uniontown will host Saturday's Class 2A Sub-State Tournament, which Pleasanton will also be a part of. The teams were seeded Wednesday.
Since there will be one court in use, the tournament will begin at 1 p.m. with subsequent matches beginning anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes after the conclusion of the previous match.
The day will begin with top-seeded Pittsburg Colgan (29-8) facing No. 8 Marmaton Valley (1-28) at 1. The match between No. 5 Northeast-Arma (15-22) and No. 4 Humboldt (17-17) follows. No. 2 Oswego (24-9) faces No. 7 Yates Center (4-26) in the third match. The first round wraps up with a match between the third-seeded Eagles and sixth-seeded Blu-Jays.
The Colgan-Marmaton Valley winner will play the Northeast-Humboldt winner in the first semifinal. The Oswego-Yates Center winner takes on the Pleasanton-Uniontown in the other. The championship match is expected to begin sometime around 7 p.m.
JUNIOR VARSITY -- The Uniontown JV concluded its season with a 25-15, 25-21 sweep of Pleasanton. Jessica Harrison served seven points and had three kills. Ashley Nietfeld also had three kills
NOTES -- Uniontown is 10-1 against the tournament field. The Eagles are 3-0 vs. Pleasanton, 2-0 against Yates Center and Marmaton Valley, 1-0 against Northeast and 2-1 vs. Oswego. The Eagles have not played Colgan or Humboldt.
Pleasanton is 4-5 against the field with all four wins coming against Marmaton Valley. They are 0-2 vs. Oswego and 0-3 vs. Uniontown....
