Tennis season ends at Regional meet
PARSONS -- Fort Scott High School's tennis season, one of education and effort, ended here Thursday afternoon at the Parsons Class 4A Regional Tournament.
"We had hoped to end the season on a more positive note and get a win or two in these opening round matches, but it just wasn't meant to be," Fort Scott head coach Lynn Barr said. "I'm really proud of this group of young ladies though for what they did this season. A season like this is rough and yet they showed a lot of character and determination to not give up and keep battling and trying. Many kids would have just given up in these circumstances and these girls didn't, they just kept going and kept trying. This is a young group and I believe that if they continue to work, they can all develop into good solid high school players."
All four matches the Tigers played happened to be against Columbus entrants. In singles, Malorie Mosler of Columbus defeated Lauren Caulfield, 8-1, and Josie Frietag beat Heather Hobbs, 8-0.
In doubles, the Columbus pair of Bobbi Shanks and Shaylee Thomas won over Kalia Dancy and Taylor Bailey, 8-2, and Makenzie Teel and Kelsey Hill defeated Sammi Carr and Ashlyn Baugher, 8-3.
The Tigers, made up mostly of freshmen or first-year players, did not win a varsity match this season.
