In conjunction with the Fort Scott Community College Gordon Parks Celebration of Culture and Diversity, students at Fort Scott Middle School were given the opportunity to partake in the African-American story telling and hand drumming talents of Richard Pitts. According to the Kansas Arts Commission, Pitts' performance called Roots of Rhythm is an enjoyable educational exercise in African-American story telling, drumming and history. The goal of the performance is to enlighten the audience on African-American culture and historical events which were instrumental in the transformation of the United States.
