Fort Scott, Nevada cross paths at Iola cross-country meet

IOLA, Kan. -- Fort Scott and Nevada High Schools' cross country teams competed at the Doc Stiles Invitational hosted by Iola High School Thursday.
Fort Scott had one runner in each varsity race. Kim Stone was 36th in the girls' 4,000-meter race in 22 minutes, 23 seconds. Charlie Sercer was 42nd in the boys' 5,000-meter race in 19:48.
Nevada had four runners in the boy's varsity 5,000-meter run. Todd Brier ran an 18:03 for 14th, Mike Bray took 49th with a 20:46, Dominic Habjan ran 20:58 and Chris Bray ran a 22:57 for 50th and 60th place.
On the varsity girls side, Nevada had three runners competing. Emily Watts finished 32nd with a 21:58, Stephanie Mosbrucker came in 35th with a time of 22:20 and Lynsay Farmer took 44th with a 25:06 run.
Fort Scott's junior varsity girls placed fourth in the 4,000 meter as a team with 94 points. Pittsburg was the winner with 31 points followed by Girard with 82.
Individually, Morgan Tourtillott was second in 18:55, just behind the winner, Edwards of Pittsburg, who ran an 18:47.
For Nevada, Danelle Stanhope took 20th with a 29:12.
Also for Fort Scott, Jenna Harper was 18th in 20:30, Leah Cassleman 19th in 20:36, Katelyn Torres 24th in 21:04, and Autumn Owenby 39th in 23:34.
Keenan Gregory finished in third place in the JV boys' race with a time of 15.43. Harry of Southeast-Cherokee was the winner in 15.27.
Nevada's junior varsity boy's included Josh Threkeld who placed 59th with a time of 19:02 and Chase Brooks who finished 72nd with a 21:45.
Julian Wichert was 21st for Fort Scott in 16:49 and Colton Ballou finished 35th in 17:39.
Nevada had one middle school 4,00-meter runner, Brandon Norton who took 19th with a time of 19:26.
The Fort Scott and Nevada Tigers will meet again on Thursday at 4 p.m. in Pittsburg at Four Oaks Golf Course.
