Motor home engulfed in flames

Saturday, September 27, 2008

At approximately 10 p.m., Thursday, Sherman Township and Bourbon County Rural Fire Departments, along with Crawford County Sheriff's deputies, were dispatched to just west of Kansas State Highway 7 on 730th Avenue, after a report came in of a mobile home on fire.

Once on the scene, officials reported finding a 1980 Custom Ford Motor Home fully engulfed in flames in the middle of the road.

Shortly after arriving on scene, first responders could be heard over the police scanner informing dispatchers that the propane tanks on the RV were exploding.

After the flames were extinguished, deputies were able to identify Ramiro Rosete, Girard, Kan., as the owner of the vehicle by running the camper's license plate number, according to officials.

Rosete reported to a Girard Police officer that he left the RV at a campsite by Farlington Lake earlier in the day.

According to the Crawford County Sheriff's office, further investigation led officers to determine that an unknown individual or group of individuals stole the vehicle from the lake, drove it to the area where it was recovered and set it on fire.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information regarding the incident is being asked to contact the Crawford County Sheriff's Office at (620) 724-8274 or another local law enforcement agency.
