Something to be proud of!
Dear Editor:
Another baseball/softball season has come and gone for the youth of Fort Scott. As the recreation director of our community, I am proud of our youth and what great citizens they are growing into.
In the past three weeks, Fort Scott has had baseball teams represented in five district tournaments and two state tournaments. Our 11-year-old team was crowned champion of district six and placed third in the state tournament in Peabody. The 10-year-old team also fared well as the boys played hard and took home the fourth place finish playing as the host team in Fort Scott.
But the biggest accomplishment of them all was the way our boys represented Fort Scott. In the seven tournaments played, a Fort Scott team took home the sportsmanship award five times. Wow! That is phenomenal!!! This award is not based on how many strike outs a pitcher has or the highest batting average, but the team that shows positive attitude, character and sportsmanship. Although I am very proud of all of our kids in the recreation program, I can't think of a better way to end the season.
A special thanks to the coaches, players, parents and spectators for taking positive steps toward these amazing achievements and your representation of Fort Scott. You are what our community stands for! Good things happen to good people! Take time to look around, we are surrounded by them. What a great day in Fort Scott!
Tom Robertson,
Fort Scott
