NOW card offers new payment options for child support recipients

Tuesday, August 5, 2008

On August 4, the Kansas Payment Center announced a new product designed to simplify the collection of child support funds.

The new NOW Visa card is being distributed by JPMorgan Chase and is available to all child support recipients.

The NOW card is said to be safer, easier and faster to use than paper check payments through electronic transfers.

According to Kansas Payment Center's Michelle Ponce, the new card works by "allowing individuals to receive their payments in less time than they would if using paper checks. And, it keeps those individuals from incurring a processing fee from the place where they get the check cashed.

In addition the new card is boasted as more secure due to the need for a personal identification number to retrieve funds. According to information provided by JPMorgan Chase, "no debit card payment has ever been lost or stolen."

Once a NOW card is activated, it can be used at all Allpoint ATMs and can be used the same as cash anywhere Visa cards are accepted, according to KPC.

There are reportedly more than 200,000 families in Kansas alone that collect some form of child support payment.

Along with the new NOW card, support payments can also be directly deposited into an existing bank account. However, for families or individuals without a bank account, the NOW card is recommended.

Custodial parents who receive child support payments can call (877) 572-5722 or visit www.kspaymentcenter.com to receive an application for the new card.
