What are some of your qualifications for this position? B.S. and M.S. degrees in education from Kansas State University; taught vocational agriculture for 16 years; employed by Farmers Home Administration for 10 years, seven of which he was supervisor of an office responsible for three counties with nearly 600 farm and housing borrowers.
Have you held a public office before? No.
Why are you running for this office? The people of Bourbon County have been good to my wife and I. In return. I would like to be of service to the county. I have no political agenda as such but will work hard to hold down spending, look for ways to run our county more efficiently and encourage new businesses to move into the county.
What do you believe your strengths will be in this office if elected? I believe my strengths are the ability to get along with people and a willingness to work hard and learn. Some might see my lack of experience in an elected public office as a weakness but I view it as a strength. I believe we need people asking "Why?" and not just accepting the status quo.
What ideas specifically do you have for the betterment of Bourbon County? I believe the number one priority should be reducing the high tax burden on property owners. The County Commission need to be involved in bringing new businesses and jobs into Bourbon County in an effort to increase the tax base.
How important do you feel city/county cooperation is to the area? Cooperation between the county and all cities within is very important. It takes everyone working together to insure that our county will continue to grow in an orderly fashion.
What community boards/organizations do you belong to? Finance chairman of West Liberty United Methodist Church.
