Madge Wynona Hawkins, age 75, of Fort Scott, died Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at Mercy Health Center. She was born May 8, 1933, in Fort Scott the daughter of John Wesley Cady and Nellie Matilda Gross Cady. She married Donald Lee Hawkins on July 3, 1950. He preceded her in death on April 20, 1991.

Madge worked for many years in the nursery department at Grace Baptist Tabernacle where she was a member. She loved flowers, collecting owls, and reading especially to her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include three sons, James Hawkins and wife Ruth, Gene Hawkins and wife Deb, and Larry Hawkins, all of Fort Scott; three daughters, Peggy Heim and husband Pat, Maize, Kan., Becky Miller and husband Craig, Fort Scott, and Donna Gage and husband Tom, Granby, Mo. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Magie Cady, Fort Scott; thirteen grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She will also be sadly missed by her three pet dogs, Rex, Jane and Fievel. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Hawkins; three brothers, Ralph, Charles and Francis Cady; three sisters, Hester Cady, Bessie West and Clara Page; one grandson, David Heim and a great-grandson, Phillip Shriver.

The Rev. Ron Brown will conduct funeral services at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in Chapel Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.
