Donald Eugene Lowry

Donald Eugene Lowry, age 60, a resident of Chanute, Kansas, was pronounced dead on Friday, July 18, 2008, near Garland, Kansas. He was born Aug. 31, 1947, in Fort Scott, Kansas, the son of Donald Eugene "Gene" Lowry and Rose Proctor Lowry. Don married Debra Long on April 15, 1976. They later divorced. He was retired from the United States Army and had served three tours during Vietnam.

Survivors include two sons, Darrick Lowry and Darren Lowry, both of Fort Scott, Kansas; two daughters, Donna Witham, Fort Scott, Kansas, and Denise Alfaro, of Kentucky. Also surviving are two brothers, Jeff Lowry, Chanute, Kansas and Bobby Proctor, Wichita, Kansas and a sister, Peggy Hill, Nevada, Mo.; and eleven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 29, at the Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in the U. S. National Cemetery with military honors provided by the Olson Frary Burkhart Post No. 1165 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Following services, the family will have a potluck dinner at Gunn Park.
