U.H.S. Baccalaureate Service, Graduation

Tuesday, May 13, 2008

The Uniontown High School Fellowship of Christian Athletes will conduct the annual Baccalaureate Service at 5:45 p.m., Tuesday, May 20, at the West Bourbon Elementary Gymnasium.

This year's speaker, Jim Ryun, achieved national acclaim as a track and field star as a high school student in Wichita, Kan. In 1965 Jim set the male High School Mile Record of 3.55.3 -- a record that stood for 36 years. Jim participated in three summer Olympic Games: 1964, 1968, and 1972, winning a silver medal in 1500 meter run in 1968. Jim also held the World Record in the mile, 1500 meters and 880 yards.

Congressman Ryun served five terms in the U.S. Congress, representing the Second Congressional District of Kansas from 1997 -- 2007. He was a member of the Armed Services, Budget and Financial Services Committees. After a loss in the 2006 election, he is currently running to re-gain his seat in the House of Representatives.

Jim is the founder and president of Jim Ryun Sports, Inc., a public relations company. He has also partnered with the ReSound Hearing Aid Co., creating his own program "Sounds of Success," aimed at helping hearing impaired children fufill their potential.

Married in January of 1969, Jim and Anne Ryun live in Lawrence, Kan. They have four adult children and six grandchildren.

The public is invited to hear Mr. Ryun share a message from God's Word at this special service for the 2008 Senior Graduating class. Graduation will follow at 7 p.m. in the West Bourbon Elementary Gymnasium.
