Thursday, May 1, 2008

BRONSON -- Uniontown's baseball team split a varsity/junior varsity doubleheader with Erie at Dawson Field here Tuesday. The visiting Red Devils took the varsity contest, 11-9, but the Eagles won in just five innings in the nightcap, 12-3.

Due to rainouts and other schedule juggling, these were the first home games for the revived baseball program.

Uniontown (4-4) tied the first game at 9-9 with five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. But Erie scored two runs in the top of the seventh with the aid of three walks.

Three Eagle pitchers allowed 10 hits and surrendered eight walks.

Clint McAnulty had a solo home run in the bottom of the third inning and went two for three. Shawn Pritchett was three for four and stole three bases. George Pillion was two for four and stole two bases.

In the JV contest that followed, Pritchett allowed three hits and three walks while striking out six to get his first win. He also went three for four and stole two more bases, making him six for eight with five steals for the day.

Pillion stole six bases for the Eagles. Jake Dawson was two for three.

The Eagle varsity is scheduled to play a triangular today at Altoona-Midway. Humboldt will also be there. Play begins at 3 p.m. just outside of Buffalo.
