JV tennis plays for final time in '08
PARSONS -- Fort Scott High's junior varsity tennis team took part in its final tournament of the season here Monday, an eight-team bracket-format tournament hosted by Labette County High School.
Both doubles teams posted 2-2 records on the day. The No. 2 doubles team of Ben Bristley and Andrew Benage finished in fourth place. They beat Columbus' Braden Petersen/Deong Yoo in the first round, 6-1. They lost to Logan Papen and Matt Hastings of Independence, 6-1, in the next round. In consolation, they defeated Neodesha's Ian Janes/Bryson Hines, 6-1, and lost to Chanute's Kyle Hernandez/Martin Ramos, 6-4.
The No. 1 team of Chris Lamb and Jimmy Cox finished fifth. They beat Thomas Niegisch/Yoseph Lee of Columbus, 6-4, in the first round. They lost back-to-back matches, first to Issac Hilger/Michael Gudmonson of Independence, 6-2, then to Max Schmedt/Andrew Gutschenritter of Neodesha, 6-3. They won their final match, 6-4, over Pittsburg's Austin York/Dakota Burton.
Both singles entries had 1-3 records and finished seventh in their brackets. Grant Stucky, playing in the No. 1 bracket, lost to Columbus' Justin Kidd and Indy's Cameron Schicke by 6-1 scores and to Neodesha's Brandon Holdenworth by a 6-2 score. He defeated Labette County's Dale Check in his last match, 6-3.
Carson Claypool played No. 2 singles. He lost to Nick Holman of Columbus, 6-0, Joel Simwinga of Independence, 6-2, and Seth Boyer of Neodesha, 6-5 (7-5). He defeated LC's Joel Merritt, 6-3.
