Letter to the Editor: Promoting local spending
As a parent of a teenager I feel that the people of Fort Scott are more worried about downtown then our children and our children's children. Fort Scott must focus on building something or bringing something into the community for our children that will be born here. once a year there is a street dance for the kids, it is a terrific idea, kids have fun and why can't there be a place where they can that year round. Fort Scott must make advances in supplying our youth with activities and places to go and have fun and learn. This is not only a summer problem, but a year round problem. There is nothing to keep our children here and learn and grow in our town. They go out of town for fun, parties, and shopping. They spend money outside of Fort Scott that could and would be spent here if there was something for them to do. Their parents also spend money outside of Fort Scott on them, because all we have is Wal-Mart and antique shops. We have nothing to offer the people of Fort Scott or visitors of Fort Scott but antique shops and used clothing stores. The people of Fort Scott need jobs that pay well. We have very few jobs that people can do here and get hired for that pay more than minimum wage. Why don't we invest some of the money in our children and the future of Fort Scott.
