Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Callow and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Ludlum were in Topeka April 5, where they met Mr. and Mrs. Rick Biles and family and celebrated Mrs. Callow's 80th birthday.
Issac Swope was a visitor at worship April 6. Martha Ann Callow gave her birthday offering, Pastor Andy's sermon was titled " The Joy of Recognition". Scripture was read from 1 Peter 1:17--25 and Luke 24:13--35.
The ladies of the church and community prepared and served lunch for the family of Oma Mitchell on Monday, April 7. Sympathy is extended to all the family. Mrs. Mitchell was an active member of the church for many years.
Congratulations to Kaitlyn Vincent for getting a one on her clarinet solo at the Regional Music Contest. She will be going to the state contest.
Ideal Chapter 369, O.E.S. met April 10 with Beverly Davis and Charles Gift presiding in the East.
The Charter was draped in memory of Oma Mitchell by the conductress, Lynda Foster. The worthy matron read a poem as members stood in the reverent attitude.
An invitation was received from Rob Morris Chapter at Pittsburg for the reception for the new District Aide of District 4. A thank you note from Beverly Davis for the Eastern Star Bible she had received from the Chapter was read.
Since the chapter is not going to basement for the serving of refreshments now, it was suggested that the Chapter buy two light weight tables to be used as serving tables. The tables in the basement are too heavy to carry up and down the stairs. After some discussion it was voted to do this.
On May 8, the new district aide will make her official visit to Ideal Chapter. The chapter will also be celebrating its 95th birthday that same night. All area chapter members are invited to attend.
The treasurer's report and Sunshine report were given by Margaret McDermed. She also reported on the Past District Aides Luncheon that she, Dorothy Ketner, and Clara Brewer had attended in Girard April 5. The fall meeting of Association will be held in Hiattville Oct. 25.
The worthy patron had some words of wisdom to share with the members.
Agnes Armstrong and Lynda Foster were responsible for the jokes to share this meeting. At the April 24 meeting, John Coyan and Clara Brewer will be responsible for them.
Gayla Croan served delicious cake and ice tea at the close of the meeting. Margaret McDermed volunteered to do refreshments for the next meeting.
Effie Mitchell enjoyed attending her grandson Dawson's school program Thursday night.
Clara Brewer accompanied Kole and Rachel Wagner to the Christian Heights High School play on Friday night.
The monthly potluck was held Saturday night with lots of good food and fellowship. Beverly Davis had brought several kinds of beautiful jonquils to share with the group.
Beth Ludlum of Washington, D.C., spent the weekend with her parents Joe and Ann. She was a visitor at church Sunday as was Trenton, Gavin, Hayden and Corben Miller.
Patty Gouthier and Glenda Miller gave birthday offerings.
Pastor Andy Smith's sermons was titled "Why Shut the Gate". Scripture was read from Acts 2:42--47 and John 10: 1--10.
The monthly administrative board meeting will be April 20 immediately following Sunday school.
Kevin, Austin and Christopher Davis of Scott City spent Sunday with Beverly Davis.
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Ludlum and Beth, drove to Topeka Saturday afternoon to visit with Joe's sister Claire. She is now living at Aldersgate Village.
Mr. and Mrs. John Slater showed and sold sheep at the Contenders sheep sale at Oswego Sunday.
The Hiattville unit of United Methodist Women met Monday night at the church. President Beverly Davis presided. The meeting opened with all repeating the Purpose. Roll call was answered by eight members, the telling their favorite flower. The president thanked Patty Gauthier for conducting the March meeting so she and Lorna Slater could attend their Garden Club meeting. Mabel Miller gave the treasurer's report. All obligations are up to date. Devotions were given by Lorna Slater based on Colossians 8:10. She talked about Spring Cleaning, reminding the group not only did we need to do cleaning of our houses but also of our heart and minds.
Clara Brewer gave a brief report from the prayer calendar and asked the group to keep the missionaries working in Zimbabwe especially in their prayers. Dora Page gave a "Response" moment on problems about immigration.
Lavone Page presented the lesson on "What Globalization Means To Me." Everyone present participated in the lesson. The worship center featured a lighted candle, a small cross, a pound of coffee, and an empty cup on a colorful cloth.
The unit voted a contribution to the West Liberty unit to help them to bring Kim Bolton to Fort Scott for an "Evening Out With Christian Girls" in October.
Letters were received from the district president and the conference president.
The Hiattville Unit has been asked to host the June 14 meeting of the Executive Team. The fall district meeting will be in Fort Scott.
Many were listed on the prayer concerns list. The meeting closed with all praying the Lords Prayer.
Refreshments of blackberry cobbler with whipped topping, cheese and crackers, coffee and ice tea were served by Clara Brewer. The next meeting will be May 12. Beverly Davis will present the lesson.
