Jayhawk girls dominant even in shortened meet
MOUND CITY -- Jayhawk-Linn's girls won their home meet easily here Thursday, scoring 143 points, double the amount scored by runner-up Central Heights.
Six events went uncontested as thunderstorms came through the area. The pole vault probably would have been scratched regardless due to the slick surface but the 4x200-meter relay, 200-meter dash, 3,200-meter run, 4x400 relay and shot put were not completed, either.
Boys' results were not available as The Tribune went to press.
Morgan Eastwood won both hurdles races, turning in a time of 17.49 in the 100 meters and 49.48 in the 300's.
Taylor Dawson was one of took long jump at 16 feet even. That is a short distance for her, but the weather conditions likely played into that.
Other winners were the 4x800-meter relay team, which turned in a time of 11:25; the 4x1, which ran a 53.54; Rockers in the 100-meter dash in 13.52 and Krull in the 400 meters in 68.43.
Darlinger took second in the discus for the Jayhawks with an effort of 92 feet, 1 1/2 inches. Jones was one of five third-place winners as she went 94' 7" in javelin. Drake cleared 4' 8" in high jump; George ran a 19.43 in the 100-meter hurdles; Mayhugh turned in a 6:11 in the 1,600 meters; and Brownback posted a 59.37 in the 300 hurdles.
