Jayhawk girls take Frontenac meet

FRONTENAC -- Jayhawk-Linn's girls easily took the team title of the rain-delayed Frontenac Invitational here Friday evening.

The Jayhawks scored 142 points, finishing well ahead of second-place Pittsburg Colgan, which scored 79. Uniontown was third with 54 points.

Jayhawk-Linn's boys also won their side of the meet, scoring 104 points. Galena was second with 77 points followed by Southeast-Cherokee with 73. Uniontown placed sixth with 53 points.

Individual results were not available for Jayhawk-Linn's boys.

Jayhawk-Linn's girls won just four events but brought back 28 medals. The 'Hawks won two medals in five events and three in three more.

Taylor Dawson won the long jump with a mark of 16 feet, 5 1/2 inches and also took the 200 meters in 27.80 seconds. Morgan Eastwood won the 300-meter hurdles in 49.62. And the 4x100-meter relay team ran a 53.80 to beat Southeast by nearly a full second.

Kaity Smith was Uniontown's lone event winner, taking the 100-meter hurdles in 17.86 seconds.

Uniontown's only winner in boys' competition was Jamie Shelton, who went 154 feet, 4 inches in javelin.

Jayhawk-Linn hosts their own invitational this afternoon at 3:30. Uniontown will go to Wichita State University's K.T. Woodman Relays Friday morning. Both schools will be in Burlington competing in the Waverly meet Monday morning.

Only Jayhawk-Linn (JL) and Uniontown (U) results are shown. Jayhawk-Linn did not send in boys' results. Times and distances for Uniontown boys' events were not available.
